Preventive health checkups are essential for early detection and management of potential health issues.


Recommendations vary by age and individual risk factors. Below is a summary of key preventive checkups for different age groups, based on current medical guidelines. 

 

Ages 13–18 (Adolescents) 

  • Annual Physical Exam: General health assessment, growth, and development. 

  • Blood Pressure: Annually. 

  • Vision and Hearing Screening: Every 1–2 years. 

  • Immunizations: As per schedule (HPV, Tdap, meningococcal, influenza). 

  • Sexual Health: STD screening if sexually active. 

  • Mental Health Screening: Depression and anxiety assessment. 

 

Ages 19–39 (Young Adults) 

  • Physical Exam: Every 1–3 years. 

  • Blood Pressure: At least every 2 years. 

  • Cholesterol/Lipid Profile: Every 4–6 years, earlier if risk factors present. 

  • Dental check up and cleaning: Yearly 

  • Diabetes Screening: Every 3 years if overweight/obese or with risk factors. 

  • Pap Smear (Women): Every 3 years from age 21–29; every 3–5 years with HPV test from age 30. 

  • Sexual Health: STI screening as appropriate. 

  • Immunizations: Annual Flu shot, Tdap booster every 10 years, HPV if not completed. 

 

Ages 40–64 (Middle Age) 

  • Annual Physical Exam: General health review. 

  • Blood Pressure: At least annually. 

  • Lipid Profile: Every 4–6 years, more often if at risk. 

  • Diabetes Screening: Every 3 years or more frequently if overweight/obese. 

  • Dental check up and cleaning: Yearly 

  • Colorectal Cancer Screening: Begin at age 45 (colonoscopy every 10 years or alternative methods). 

  • Mammogram (Women): Every 1–2 years starting at age 40–50. 

  • Pap Smear/HPV (Women): Every 3–5 years. 

  • Prostate Cancer Screening (Men): Discuss with doctor from age 50, or earlier if high risk. 

  • CA 125 for women 

  • Bone Density (Women): Begin at menopause or earlier if risk factors. 

  • Eye Exam: Every year. 

  • Hearing Test: Every 3 years. 

 

Ages 65 and Older (Seniors) 

  • Annual Physical Exam: Comprehensive health review. 

  • Blood Pressure: At least annually. 

  • Lipid Profile: Every 1–2 years. 

  • Dental check up and cleaning: Yearly 

  • Diabetes Screening: Annually if risk factors present. 

  • Colorectal Cancer Screening: Continue until age 75. 

  • Mammogram (Women): Every 1–2 years until age 74. 

  • Bone Density Dexa scan: At least once after age 65 for women, 70 for men. 

  • Vision and Hearing: Annually. 

  • Cognitive Assessment: Annual screening for memory and thinking problems. 

  • Immunizations: Annual flu shot, shingles (zoster), pneumococcal, and Tdap boosters.
