At Shalom Lifecare, each patient becomes a part of our extended family, and the bonds we form often go beyond medical care. One of our cherished experiences was with this sweet lady who stayed with us for two months of long-term care. Her journey with us was more than just managing her health.
From the beginning, she embraced life at our long-term care facility with warmth. Evenings, she would take her walks around the hospital campus, greeting staff and enjoying light conversations. She didn’t just receive care; she became a part of our daily lives. The smiles and chats she exchanged with our team were a testament to her positive spirit.
As part of the Support Team, I had the opportunity to meet her during one of our psychosocial assessment rounds. I approached her with the usual questions we ask, carefully designed to understand the emotional and social aspects of her well-being. But she wasn’t going to let me get away with just an assessment. She playfully remarked, “Ye kya investigation le rahe ho? Let me also ask you some questions!” Her lightheartedness and sense of humor instantly brightened the room. It was clear that, for her, this was more than an assessment—it was a chance for genuine human connection, which is what we aim at.
Our conversations weren’t about ticking boxes on a form; they were about sharing stories, listening to her concerns about ageing, and offering words of encouragement and prayer. In those moments, we weren’t just caregivers; we were companions on her journey through this phase of life.
Her greatest desire, as she expressed, was to maintain her independence for as long as possible. We are honored to have been part of her journey and to have provided her with the comfort and companionship she sought. As she moves forward, we wish her all the best, confident that her strength and spirit will keep her thriving in her independent life.
At Shalom Lifecare, this is what Total Person Care means. It’s about more than just medical treatments; it’s about understanding the human spirit and walking alongside our patients every step of the way. We’re deeply grateful for the bond we shared with her and for the opportunity to make her feel at home during her stay.
